Deep Pain

At the illness of her son                     

The depth of the pain she suffers   

Is more than she has ever known

She hides it from him  

And bears it quietly 

She smiles at him

Gives him all the love 

And hope she can offer

While holding back her tears

She prays for his recovery

But it is too late 

To fight the illness

Morphine dulls his pain

She never thought

That her role as mother 

Would include the burial

Of the young life 

She brought into the world
